Gloria Gonzalez "What To Consider When Putting Together Your Wedding List"

Interiors expert, friend and colleague to some of the biggest names in the interiors world, the lovely Gloria Gonzalez has graced the WPC blog to share her insight into what you should consider when putting together your wedding gift list, and some timeless options that will stand the test of time.

Growing up in Spain, I was always interested in design. After finishing my masters degree in Art History, I was lucky enough to work for the Spanish fashion brand LOEWE – first as an intern at their private archives and museum, and then later as part of their PR team. It was then when I started my Instagram account @bygloriagonzalez and my blog ‘Directorio Deco’ in my spare time. Thanks to these platforms I was able to meet and connect with hundreds of people in the interiors industry, specifically in London (where I had previously lived and studied) and where I’m based at the moment. It also allowed me to find a new career path. My job involves working with different companies in the interior design industry. I leverage my knowledge and experience to help them in many ways: from marketing and social media to finding new retailers for their product to private sourcing and beyond – I love connecting people and I’m very fortunate to do it for a living now.

I have learnt a thing or two from my own experiences as a wedding guest and I would say that the 3 main points you need to follow are:

1. Think about the size of your wedding – Make sure you have enough presents on your gift list to cater for all your guests. This avoids them going off-list.

2. Think about wedding gift list etiquette – Make sure you have a good variety of price points to cater for all your guests. For this matter the WPC wedding list advisor is great, they are the experts when it comes to gift list etiquette!

3. Think long term - Don’t limit your gift list because you currently live in a small flat, think to the future. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to set yourselves up for life.

Timeless Options for your Wedding Gift List

I would advise you to think about the things you use daily and build your list accordingly. High-quality tableware is always a timeless gift list choice: take your time to pick the right glassware, plates and cutlery. Build a versatile collection that you can mix and match with other pieces that you already have. What I really like about the Wedding Present Co is its amazing variety: from formal to casual, traditional to contemporary there’s a style and design for everyone.

Good cookware is also a must– the right pieces can last you decades. Another timeless choice is a go-to cookbook that you can use over and over – as much as I research online for recipes I still love having my cookbooks and I love seeing my mother using the one she received when she got married.

When building a wedding gift list, people tend to focus on kitchen stuff, but you definitely shouldn’t forget about bed and bath. I see a wedding list as a great opportunity to splurge in luxurious bedding and bathroom essentials.

Finally, I would pick decorative accents that you really love. They can transform a room and add a personal touch to any corner: a handcrafted vase, an intricate tray or a special table lamp are just a few ideas.
